Most copies lack the text portion, which includes an introduction to the work and a description of the Lepidoptera depicted on plates 1-4, both in English and in French
The prospectus for Psyche appears as an advertisement printed on p. [2] of the original paper wrappers issued with the individual parts
The plates are chiefly proofs before letters. The first four plates are numbered 1-4, with internal figures 1-10 (1, 5 not marked); the next two plates are unnumbered but with internal figures 17, 18, 19 and l4, l5, [16] (or 13?); all other plates are without letterpress. All plates are interleaved with blanks

In the 1985 revised census by Griffin and Swann, the Smithsonian is identified as the owner of item no. 14: "In US National Museum. It was bought by the Smithsonian Institution from Wesley and Sons ... in March 1901. It is bound in a volume of contemporary natural history works and has been cut down in size. The volume has a bookplate of 'George Gostling.' We are indebted to William L. Corbin, Librarian of the Smithsonian Institution for this information." However, the whereabouts of this particular copy are currently unknown; it may be in an unanalyzed volume of bound-with materials, or in the Natural History Museum's (rather than the Libraries') collection
SCNHRB copy (39088015278740) is incomplete, and includes the engraved t.p. and 9 leaves of plates, together with the original printed wrappers for parts I, III, IV, and V, only
SCNHRB copy is from the Bengt-Olof Landin Collection, sold by Crafoord Auction House, Lund, Sweden, cat. item no. 409. One of the former owners was identified by Griffin and Swann as Capt. R.H.D. Oliver
SCNHRB copy has bookplate: Smithsonian Institution Libraries. Purchased from the Cullman Endowment
SCNHRB copy has laid in: facsimile (photocopied) leaves for the "Address", text for Papilio amulius, Papilio myrina, and Papilio sesonia (with French version included), apparently reproduced from the British Museum copy, 1963; also a laminated photocopy of no. II (printed wrapper, p. 7-8 in both English and French), and color reproductions of the two plates; these are apparently reproduced from the Royal Entomological Society (London) copy. Copies of correspondence between Landin and agents of Wheldon & Wesley, and photocopies of the Griffin-Swann articles from the Archives of nat. hist. and The library association record, are also laid in
SCNHRB copy is housed in a later marbled paper clamshell box with a gilt-lettered green morocco leather label on the front
